At the conference between - the niin(»r>s delegates and coal owners, the. Government made an important, offer, to the State miners, which lias.now been submitted in detail to the State aimers Union for decision. It is suggested that a Board of Management for the State mine he set up, consisting gt the Minister of alines (who is to ho Chairman), the Under-Secretary of Mines Department, with a commercial, man to be appointed, by Government and a, representative of mo miners who shall
be appointed by ballot every three years. The elected member is to receive two guineas per day when absent from work on business of the Board, which shall meet monthly. The Government’s scheme indicates that the proposed Board of Management, if constituted, should be asked to arrange as quickly as possible for the erection of _a sufficient number of houses for the miners. It is also proposed by Government that a scheme be formulated providing Slate miners with superannuation and insurance against loss from sickness or unemployment.
