A FIND OF GYPSUM. WAIROA, March' 3
A local settler of this country when looking (for limestone, found a large deposit of calcium sulphate of gypsum. Several samples were analysed, and gave a return of 71.92, of sulphate. A plant is to be put up almost'immediately to work the deposit, for which there is a considerable demand. Probably a company will be formed. The find is within fifteen chains of metalled road and accessible to motor traffic.
, RASPBERRY SYRUP. WANGANUI, This Day. The manager of the local aerated water factory A. -Ayshford was fined 40/- for selling a substance containing red coal tar dye artificial coloring, as raspberry syrup. It was explained by defendant’s counsel that the supply of the proper labels ran out and old ones printed before the Sale of Foods and Drugs Act came, into force, were used. RAILWAYMEN’S PROTEST. HAMILTON, March 8. Railwaymen passed a resolution protesting against Justice Stringer’s finding and urging the executive to call stop work meetings throughout the Dominion. YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED. DUNEDIN, March 8. A young woman named Agnes Andrews, whose parents reside at Mosgiel, was drowned at Warrington beach this afternoon. The body hag been recovered, but no particulars are available.
SHEPHERD’S WAGES
CHRISTCHURCH, March 8
A dispute between the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union and the Musterers, Packers, and Sheep Herds Section of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Union of Workers was before the Conciliation Council to-day, but a deadlock was reached. The case will go to the Arbitration Court. The Sheep Owners’ Union relied on the Otago Award, but the men said that it was unsatisfactory.
