The remains of the wreck of the German warship Adler is reminiscent of the H.M.S. Callope’s performance in steaming out of the harbour in the face of a tremendous htirricaneA glimpse was obtained from the Mokoia on ttie bush covered hill behind the town, of Stevenson’s Vailima, now the residence of the Administratoi.. Members got ashore sharply in canoes, wlifcih rowed as many as thirty-sir oarmon. A welcome was given by ** large gathering of Europeans and Samoans The party were received by General Robin and an address was presented by ex-King Maleatoa and Tuimaliafana, Native advisers to the Administrator At the European gathering ex Judge Roberts cordially wclcoved the visitors. ; In the afternoon the members gathered with the native parliament ; n the the beautiful Form House. Following an impressive ceremony of Kava drinking, a lengthy petition was pro sented containing many requests. Sir ,T. Allen, in the course of his reply 10 ferring to a suggestion in the petition that in the event of dissatisfaction vith the administration Samoans would tcquest direct control by the Colonial Office, said it was more difficult to make representations to the Colon hi Office than the easily accessible part of New Zealand. Sir J. Allen promised toi bring the proposal for two Samoan seats in. the Parliament before Mr Massey. Til regard to the request that the salaries of the native advisers'to the administrator he increased to £590 and European residences provided. Sir .T. Allen pointed out that the salaries had been recently increased, and lie was of opinion that Samoan houses were preferable. Tho question of indentured labour was not raised. i
