• : INSULATED SHIPS. s WELLINGTON, Fdbrjiarv 28. b The Prime Minister has received a cablegram from the High Commissioner to-day in regard to insulated ! shipping, to the effect that during • March 10 ships of 3,03J,0.0 cubic feet capacity will load in New Zealand and ! four ships of 1,304,000 cubic feet will load in April. Eleven ships which previously were allowed to April, will he delayed to May or June. Sir Thomas Mackenzie says the British ■Board* of Trade regrets the delay, which is outside its control. The hoard is endeavouring to obviate the delays, avs far as congestion is concerned, by stimulating consumption The shipping season for Australian fruit ends in April, and arrangements will be made for a larger proportionate share of the, tonnage, thus made
available to he given to New Zealand to make good the diversions made in the latter part of last year. A STABBING AFFRAY. ; AUCKLAND, This Day. A stabbing affray in which two foreigners were concerned occurred in town last night which resulted in one of them Hieing severely gashed about the arm and subsequently. the police arrested a Dalmatian on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm. PRICE OF BREAD.
AUCKLAND, This Day. The Prime Minister states with reference to the increase in the price of bread under the new scheme will not bo finally determined until his return to Wellington. The Board of Trade recently sanctioned as from today an increase in-tho price of flour by £3 per ton and in the price of bread by two-pence per four pound loaf. It also proposes that the subsidy to millers shall be continued at the presentrate of 57/6 per ton. OBITUARY. DUNEDIN, This Day. George Joaehin, for many years general manager of the Westport Coal Coy. died to-day.
BAND CONTEST. DUNEDIN, This Day. The Band Contest began to-day. The withdrawals from the B. Grade are: Maorihili Fifth Regiment, Wellington Eighth Rfegiment, Canterbury Coast Defences, Southland, Appleton and Whangarei. The withdrawals from A Grade are: —Queen Alexandra. Second Wanganui, Eighth Southland, and Napier City. F. flat solo result: —R. K. Oldney, (Hnwkes Bay) 98 points, 1, J. Baxter (Invercargill, Hibernian), 97 points 2; A protest was entered against Oldney on the grounds that lie used E.E. .flat instead of ‘E- fiat.
ONE CHARGE DISMISSED. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day The Tainui case was resumed this morning. The charge of negligence against Frederick Wm. Patridge, mannrrer of the Vacuum Oil Coy., at- Christ- j church was dismissed. Tn applying for j a dismissal of the charge, Mr Myers submitted that the War Regulations, j under which the charge was laid, did not apply to,finny set of circumstances such a«; disclosed in the case.
