A NEW BOOK
causes a Sensation
(Received tbjs day at 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 26. Phijlip Gibb’s new book ‘‘Realities of War” has made a strong impression. It consists, largely of caustic criticism of Generals and bitter revelations of disasters which could not be told during the censqrship. ... Gibbs castigates the regular army -- officers’ training which produced specie mop with canaries’ brains and Fpfcsdam manners; yet they formed a close corporation from which the brilliant civilians were kept until towards the end of the war, Gibbs mentions General Hobbs, Monash and Barrie as instances of success of 1 unprocessional soldiers when given a chance. His description of Neuve Chapelle, Loos, Bulk-court, and Ypres make grim reading. The British high command only learned by costly mistakes oft repeated, for which the slaughtered British youths paid the penalty.
