BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(Our Own Correspondent.)
The ordinary meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place on Tuesday evening. Present.—S. P. Evans, 'E’sq., (Mayor), Councillors, W. B. Browning, A. W. Upjohn, W. Hamilton, F. Moore N. j. Phillips, and M. H. Linstrom. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From the Greymouth Borough Council re arranging for the visit of the Prince of Wales.—Received. It was resolved to approach the Railway department with the view of arranging for an excursion train to run from Ross to Gremouth on the occasion of the visit; further arrangements to be discussed at the next meeting of the Council, when more particulars will be available.
From Charles Upjohn, asking for permission to erect a swinging fence at Donnelly’s Creek footbridge.—Received ; resolved to grant the request subject to the work being done to the satisfaction of the Chairman of the P. W. Committee. From Westland County Council, forwarding statement in connection with the Licensing; Act expenditure, showing the Council quoto to be £2 7s for the period.—Statement approved and account passed for payment. From J. F. Downey, Inspector of Mines, approving of the specifications in connection with expenditure of grant on repairs to Beach and Donoghues roads.—Received.
From Valuer-General, forwarding a list of alterations and additions to the Valuation Roll.—Received. The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £53 10s 6d, which were passed for payment. Cr Moore, (Chairman Public Works Committe), reported that two drays were employed on the Donoghues Road; that 60 yards of broken metal had already been placed thereon, and a considerable quantity was yet required. It would take several weeks yet to complete this work. Other routine work had also been attended to. —Report received and approved. The matter of refencing a number of trees in Moorhouse St., and on Park Ter race was left in the hands of Cr Upjohn to have carried out.
Cr Moore was authorised to have the protection works on Donnelly’s Creek attended to. DOMAIN BOARD. The Domain Board, which is comprised of the Mayor and Councillors, met immediately after the Council meeting, when the annual report and balance sheet was presented. The statement showed that £lO 19s Od had been spent on the Recreation ground, and that
there was a credit balance of £ll 16s on hand.—Report received, approved and adopted. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. The weekly euchre tournament was held in the Coronation Hall on Monday evening, a: good number being present. Mrs Mulvaney, was the lucky winner of the ladies’ prize (which was kindly donated by Mrs Heveldt), and Mr Mulvaney won the gents’ prize.
