Owing to the political outcry following the disclosures during the Helfferich libel suit, Erzberger has resigned until the charges that he defrauded the revenue can be investigated, and his innocence proved. DEATH PENALTY IN GERMANY. BERLIN February 25. President Ebert has issued a decree instructing the death penalty for arson, railway sabotage, the ringleaders of riots or tumultous assemblies, sentence to be carried out by shooting.
