'By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ELECTION EXCITEMENT. LONDON, Feb. 25. The excitement at Paisley was unprecedented for many years. There was much betting, numberless sweepstakes being organised on the result. The political clubs in London and the provinces were crowded to read the declaration of fhe poll pn the tape machines.

It is recognised that Mr Asquith’s return will revolutionise the Parliamentary situation. Seventy-nine per cent, of the electors voted. When Mr Asquith emerged from the County Buildings, after the declaration of the poll, he was pelted with peasmeal. An attempt was made to hold up his motor car with a rope, hut he finally broke through,, amid a babel of cheers and hisses. Mr Bigger appeared later, and he was carried shoulder high along the streets. Mr Mae Kean (Unionist) forfeited his £l5O deposit tlirougli not polling the required percentage. Mr Asquith takes bis seat on Monday.

LORD HALDANE’S TENDENCY. LONDON, Feb. 25. It is rumoured that Lord Haldane is joining the Labour Party. He will address the Wiltshire electors on behalf of the prospective Labour Party though lie cannot say what may happen' in future. LADY POLITICIANS. LONDON, Feb. 25. The Liberal organisations rip seven constituencies have invited Lady BfilU ham Carter -(Mr Asquith’s daughter), to stand at next electon as Liberal candidate. „ _ , Lady Astor (Unionst M-.P., for Portsmouth), delivered her maiden speech in the House yesterday. The papers say the speech was regarded generally as a signal success. She displayed much wittiness, and her speech contained many pathetic passages. She received an ovation at its conclusion.
