OUR LEGISLATORS AT SEA. WELLINGTON, This Day. A wireless from the M'v.cia states a heavy swell on Saturday made travelling uncomfortable. Sunday broke clear, with a following wind. On Friday Commissioner Platts gave an interesting lecture on the Cook Islands. On Saturday wireless messages received aboard tell of extensive preparations for the welcome at Rarotonga, where deputations of the Island Council, settlers, natives, fruit growers and European traders await the visitors. It. is reported a conflict has arisen between the latter on the policy of the fruit trade. Mr Massey’s radio message on the coal settlement was applauded on its receipt.
i The members aboard heartily endorsed Sir J. Allen’s congratulatory reply. There is no padre aboard. An impressive Sunday service was conducted by Sir James Allen reading the lessons, and Mr Isitt preaching a sermon. The steamer will probably arrive at Rarotonga on Tuesday evening. The delay is due to the poor quality of the coal.
The party are realising the distance separating New Zealand from its dependencies.
