AMUSEMENTS.
POLLARDS PICTURES.
WEDNESDAY. On to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, Pollards will present a very strong programme, consisting of the stirring sensational drama “Untamed,” featuring Roy Stewart; ‘.‘The Mystic Box,” the 6th episode of “The Lightning Raider,” and “Following Old Glory,” the last episode of “The House of Hate.” In. “Untamed” the great actor of typical western heroes, gives a natural and vivid representation of a Mexican border ranchman. Ho is supported by Ethel Fleming as the daughter of a professor. This clever lady gives a particularly charming portrayal of a beautiful and out-door girl. There are plenty of thrills and romantic adventures. “DAMAGED GOODS.” TWO SESSIONS THURSDAY.
On Thursday at the Princess Theatre two sessions will he given of Eugene Brieux’s strong play, “Damaged Goods.” The first screening on Thursday will be at 2.30 p.m. for women only ; the second at 8 p.m. for men only. This is according to the edict of the censor that the sexes must separate at the f< ssions. As a result of the world’s great upheaval, the leading scientists, Loth in the war zone and out of it, have by their attempts to combat venereal disease educated the public mind to regard the important subject dealt with in the play, “Damaged Goods,” which was staged in Christchurch some time ago, in a serious and straightforward j way. Eugene Brieux’s novel was tan- j ned in New Zealand some few vears back by the authorities, but it is quite safe to assume that, with the experience the war lias brought, the novel would now ho gladly received, not only by tlie medical faculty but by chose broad-visioned workers who have come out in the open and insisted upon this terrible scourge being attacked and stemmed in the same way as consumetion has, and is being fought throughout tlie world.
