By this morning’s train there were passengers, lone of the oldest families in the Kokatnhi district in the person of Mr Thomas Meharrv and his daughter and grand-child and son-in-law. who have left the Const to reside in Christ- ' church. Mi - Thomas Meharrv was a very early settler in the Upper Kokatahi, reaching liis home by going up the Hokitika river-bed and then over to the foot of the hills, and proceeding along a very primitive bush track to his new holding. He has the district . of both Kokatnhi and Koiternngi grow out of a dense native forest to its present prosperous condition, and he lias prospered with it. A few days ago, be. fore leaving the district the settlers on both sides of the river met together in the Koiterangi Hall, and spent a very sociable evening in saying farewell to such a worthy family.
