ATHLETICS.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.J WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. At the Wellington Provincial Amateur Athletic Meeting to-day there was an attendance of 4000 and big fields com poted. The McVilly Challenge Shield was won by Wellington Amateur Athletic Club, 62 points, with Wairarapa, 37 points second. W. Candy, of Masterton, won the 220 yards championship, with W. X. J. Barker, the present champion second. The half-mile flat went to W. J. Nesdale ,of Wanganui, with Bourk, of Wellington second. The three mile run was won in good style by A- Wyreth of Masterton, with P. J. Troy of Wellington, second. Other championship events were won as follows. Mile walk.—A. B. Sievwirght. 120 vards handicap hurdles. —W. E. Wilson, Wellington. Hop, step and jump—W. J. Thompson, Wellington. One mile flat.—J. J- Trop 1, and Wyott 2. 100 yards.—ll. E. Wilson. High jump.—B. Hayell, Wairarapa, 5 foot 71 inches. w , Long jump.—E. J. Sutherland, Wellington. „
