Air Cranston, accompanied by Air Ford, mining engineer, is expected, to reach here on Tuesday next to take up matters in connection with the Rimu Flat developments. Air Ford. and family will be domiciled here. The AVestland County Council notifies ratepayers whose rates are in arrears that ten per cent interest will be added to all rates remaining unpaid on and after March Ist, and that all rates unpaid after March 31st, may be sued for without further notice. .

At a meeting of the Hokitika Repatriation Committee yesterda v afternoon it wa s reported fifteen applications for loans for businesses and furniture undertakings, aggregating £3,880, were recommended during the month. The repayments over the same period for principal and interest 'totalled £2lB. Two additional applications were dealt with and a decision held over to await the inspecting officer now duo in respect to industrial applications. An application for extension of a loan, was held over for further report, and consideration of action regarding a joint loan was deferred till next week to await reply from the parties concerned'.

One of the oldest residents of Wakatipu, Mr Daniel '.Yf’Kenzie, died at Lake County Hospital on Saturday, evening. Deceased, who was in his 84th year, was born at Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland, and came to New Zealand in the barque Geelong, in 1861. He engaged in farm, ing at Dunedin for. a few years, and then went to Hokitika, where lie joined the staff pf the Hokitika Times, having served his 'time in the printing and stationery business in Scotland. Forty four years ago he took up land at Martin's Bay for' the purposes of cattleraising. In those days there was a monthly .steamer to Martin's Bay, and a monthly maif to Queenstown overland, via Greenstone. After 27 years, deceased removed to Glenorohy, wjiere lie lived in retirement for the last 17 years. Mr and Mrs M’Kenzie celebrated their golden wedding two years ago. A widow, two sons and two daughters are left, the two former being engaged in cattle raising in the Martin’s Bay district, and Mrs Jos. Cuttanee of Okuru is a daughter; also Mrs McKenzie gf Centra} Otago.
