It is desired that arrangements for local receptions and. entertainments at each place of visit should be proposed by the local authorities and residents, though such arrangements must necessarily be submitted to and have the approval of the Government before being finally decided upon. The Government will propose to Parliament that provision ibe made for a subsidy of £ for £ upon approved expenditure incurred by local authorities for the purpose.
Requests have already been received from all parts of New Zealand that the Prince should lay foundation stones or unveil memorials. It would be impossible in the permitted period of the visit to find time for ceremonies of that nture even during the three or four days of the stay at the principal centres. In accordance with his Royal Highness’s express request, arrangement will be made for returned soldiers to assemble at the principal places of stay, and also at places where it will be reasonably possible for the Royal train to "stop for from a quarter to half an hour. Similar arrangements will be made for assemblages of t*'hooi children.
It, however, must be noted that returned soldiers or children will only be conveyed by -special trains from distances sufficiently limited to enable a return special train to reconvey them to their homes on the same day.
At -Rotorua, the Maoris will assemble in large numbers, the Government undertaking the arrangements necessary to ensure a. fitting Native reception to the Prince.
RULE FOR ADDRESSES. WELLINGTON, February 19. The Government wishes it made as widely known as possible that local authorities and public organisations which desire to present addresses of welcome to the I’rinco of Wales during his visit to New Zealand, should have such addresses drafted immediately. Copies of drafts should be sent without delay to the Private -Secretary of the Hon. Sir Francis Bell, Parliamentary Buildings, Wellington, in order that His Royal Highness may be enabled to prepare replies. SPECIAL RACE MEETING. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 19. Some time ago, the Canterbury Jockey Club approached the Government for the purpose of obtaining a permit to hold a special race meeting at Riccarton in honour of the visit of the Prince of Wales. This morning advice way received from the Minister of Internal Affairs stating that the necessary permit would be available and the meeting will now be held on May 7tli or Bth. A programme committee will meet in a few days and arrange all details.
It is understood that Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington Trotting authorities all made applications for permits to hold special meetings. So far as Christchurch Club is concerned no reply lias been received.
