Thoughts For The Times.
Lacking Learned Guidance
Why is there so much unrest in the world’to-day? Is it not due largely to the fact that the uneducated masses are following uneducated leaders? It is a case of “the blind leading the blind. In many countries, for some time perhaps, these leaders will guide public opinion; therefore it is vital that they be educated along the wisest and soundest lines. Knowledge must be diffused, and what finer agency for the diffusion of knowledge is there than the Univeisitv ? It should be a. centre from which radiate all educational activities; it should he a br.ot -erhood serving mankind with knowledge based on sound judgment, wisdom, and rclig on. The spiritual and the ethical side of education must be emphasised, and the University must see to it that education is not built on a foundation of materialism.
