CHAUTAUQUA

The afternoon session of Chautauqua was attended by a fair attendance when the Fenwick Newell concert party made their first apearance and at once become “en rapport” with the audience. Mr Reed gave his final address and further added to the very favourable im. pression fie had made on the previous evening.

The evening session was greeted with a full tent, the Newell party creating the utmost enthusiasm. Mr Newell sand “The Trumpeter,” “When my Ships,” “Celeste Aida,” “Kipling’s Recessional,” and for encore numbers, “Mother Maohree,” “Mavis” and “By the Waters of Minnelouke.” Miss Baker gavo us violin solos, “Spanish Romance” and “Canto Amoroso,” and for encore “Minuet” by Beethoven. Dr Giesel gave a lecture on health that fairly carried her audine c e away. A good deal had been heard and a great deal was expi'etod of this earnest speaker and her address surpassed expectation. Among the most striking of her many points were since the natural law is for the full life to be six times the time occupied in attaining full growth, and human beings take 20 years to grow up then any one is a shirker who gave up their job before the age of 120 years, lively one should drink 2} quarts of liquid "every day to wash themselves inside a s well as out. Taking up certain diseases slie traced thencourse and preventability and her description of the brain and its operation held, hearers spellbound as did her description of the operation theatres in Russia and Paris. The way the speaker made the subjects of operation by which discoveries were made thrilled the' audience, everyone coming away from the tent determined in future to make' their own pepsin instead of letting/ the clogs in Russia make it for them. 'Pile season closes this evening with. Junior Town by the local children, another address by Dr Giesel and concert by tile Fenwick Newell concert party. ‘
