“EXTREME” CONVICTIONS
(To the Editor.) gi [r) ,\t Tuesday evening’s Chautauqua entertainment, Mr Wild, secretary for tho guarantors of this foreign importation, could not let the occasion pass without having a jibe at the local Labor Party. Now if Mr Wild has the courage of his convictions, let Mr Wild take up the challenge that is hereby thrown out to him, namely, to meet a representative of the local party in a public debate on Socialism, when it will be clearly shown to the public of Hokitika whether Mr Wild is a. fit and proper person to get up at a public entertainment (which Is allegedly anti-sectarian and anti-political) and instiru)ct a public audience as to the different degrees of “extremity” in the philosophy of socialism. If Air ‘Wihl takes up this challenge, and in fairness to the audience on whom he inflicted hi s opinion, he should ,do, a small charge for admission could be' made, and the .proceeds donated to either (1) Comforts for the Kumara Old Peoples’ Home, or (2) New wing at the Westland Hospital.—l am etc., On behalf of the Labor Party, F. W. RUDKIN
