THE FAMOUS “DIGGERS.”
PRINCESS THEATRE, TO-MORROW
EVENING
“A smiling face goes all the way. The ‘Diggers’ helped your boys over many a weary mile in France; go and sec them.” This is Major-General Sir Andrew Russell’s message in reference to tile talented band of soldier entertainers, who will make their bow to a Hokitika audience at the Princess Theatre to-morrow and Thursday evenings. The combination, now known as the Pierrot “Diggers,” are on a tour of New Zealand, having met with great success in each city and town already visitedfl. As the Divisional “Diggers” in a tour just completed, they were responsible for raising the sum of about £2,500 for the benefit of returned soldiers, which amount was handed over to the Mayors of the various towns where the “Diggers” entertainments were given. This amount represented 00 per cent, of the receipts. Since their inception some three years ago, the “Diggers” have played in many strange places. During the last push of the Hun on the Flanders front, the Pierrots performed nightly under shell-fire to hundreds of Belgian refugees. The combination consists of some twenty per formers, ten comprising the orchestra, and ton artists, each accomplished in bis particular style of business. The “Diggers” methods of presenting their excellent bill of fare are both original and novel, and intending patrons aro promised good music, intermingled with plenty of wholesale fun and humour, which is noted ns a. pleasing feature. The box plan is now open at Misses McIntoshs’ popular stores.
