CHAUTAUQUA
The Chautauqua season was carried to half way point yesterday. At both the afternoon and evening sessions the attendance was good, that at night being the larger. The Zedeler Symphonic Quintette delighted the audiences at botli sessions. Varied programmes of good music were submitted, and were much enjoyed. Every item was encored. Miss Helen Fortune sustained her high reputation as a soloist and was recalled on each appearance. The whole of the musical programme was a special delight to the audience. Dr Arthur Carpenter was the lecturer. He dealt with astronomical subjects. In the .afternoon be spoke of “The Energies of the Universe,” and at night “Worlds in the Making.” The lecturer is bubbling with knowledge and information of his subject, and kept the attention of bis audience closely retained throughout bis informative address.
For tli© fourth day of Chautauqua the Zedeler Quintette will again supply the musical programme, concluding tonight with a special grand concert. Mr M. C. Reed of Washington will be the speaker, his subject being “The New Era in Civilisation.” Mr Reed is described as one of the national civic leaders of America, and he should be well, worth hearing. The season of Chautauqua will extend till Thursday, two sessions daily, and winding up with a novel display by Junior Town which is in daily rehearsal.
