AUSTRALIAN MILITARY POLICEMAN ARRESTED.

SHOOTS AN ENGLISH DETECTIVE. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this dt»7 at 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 15. Three detectives raided a bouse in Piniplico, occupied by an' Australian military police corporal, where it is believed the proceeds of the recent big burglaries were concealed. The Australian fired a revolver at the detectives. Owing to the magazine jamming only one shot was effective, striking Detective Sergt. Cooper in the right breast, and coning out at the shoulder. He is not in a serious condition. The Australian was overpowered and arrested. Another occupant has been under observation for several days.

The police forced an entry at 2 oclock on Sunday morning. While in the passage the Australian demanded their business. The police replied: "lie intend to search the premises.” Then they heard a revolver click in the darkness. It misfired, then a shot rang out, striking Cooper. When the Australian was arrested he shouted: “It’s all a mistake.”
