HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, FEB. 13

The ordinary mcetng of the Council was held at 7.40 p.m. Present; Messrs H. M. Coulson, (Deputy Mayor), H. A. Thompson, J. King, G. A. Wood, N. Warren, F. McGregor. Apologies were made for t-lic absence of the Mayor and Messrs Breeze, Blank and Parkhill.

Tlio minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From Mrs F. Preston drawing attention to foot path in Hall Street. —Received and referred to t-lie Overseer .to attend to.

From Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department regarding the power line license to the Kanicri Power Company, and asking if the license covered the whole of the Borough.—Received. It was resolved to agree to the license covering the whole of the Borough, the Clerk to reply. It was said that the agreement between the Borough and the Company covered the portion of the Borough north of the Hokitika river only. From Kanieri Power Ltd applying for a water supply for boiler feed, etc. at the works, Weld St.— Received. It was resolved that the fee be fixed at £5 per year, the Company to pay cost of laying water on. From Westland County Council asking co-operation in urging the matter of hydro-electric supply for Westland Re ceived. The Chairman strongly supported the proposal, and moved Hat the Council co-operate. Mr F. McGregor seconded," and referred to the past action of -x previous Government in vetoeing proposals of the nature now proposed. Mr \Varreu said* the movement should ho helped in every way as the objective was most desirable. The motion was carried, and the Mayor and Messrs McGregor and Wood were np'pointed delegates. From Paroa School Committee asking for use of Cass Square for picnic on 14th insfc.—Received and approved. From Municipal Band thanking the Council for past assistance, and asking that Monday night he reserved for the band for practice at the Town Hall.— Received and resolved that the Band he given the prior right for Monday nights for the weekly practice. From Graham and Johnston, sawmillers ,asking that Sale street, leading to Shallow Rush track ho repaired; cost about £2O. —Received. Mr King enquired why the Public Works Committee had not been called together to consider the matter. In the absence of tbe Chairman of the Public Works Committee, no answer was forthcoming. After discussion it was resolved that the- work lie put in hand, the Overseer to act up to tlie amount stipulated. From Hokitika Fire Brigade urging that the present water supply he supplemented, as there was a danger *f the present supply not being adequate in the event of a serious outbreak of fire. Committee to consider in conjunction with the loan proposals. From J. N. Naldcr notifying that the Council had been appointed the con. trolling authority for the administration of tho Licensing Act.—Received.

REPORTS. From Treasurer notifying receipts for the period £l2l 5s lid; payments, C 471 14s lid; debit balance, £531 5s ‘ld.—Received.

From Abattoir Manager notifying during period following stock bad been killed:—l2 cows, 64 bullocks, 200 sheep, 120 lambs, 1 pig, 9 calves; fees, £59 6s. Received. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Wood drew attention to the need for co-operating with other bodies m liaviim Maliinapua Creek made navigable." Mr King, the Chairman, Mr McGregor, and Mr Thompson supported. 'lt was resolved Messrs Ooulson, Wood and Thompson bo a sub-cogimit-tea to net in the matter with the local bodies. ( The Committee rose at 8.30 o clock.
