11l connection with the exchange rate ' difficulty, the American Consul here advises exporters to now sell in American dollars, instead of in sterling. Spain is already doing this. Othei countries are beginning to take the same attitude. The United States is encouraging it. A prominent Sydney hanker has declared that by doing this, Australian merchants will be helping to stabilise the London money markets. Any Australian bank would collect these dollars for a small commission, or a settlement could 1)C made i»| the ordinary course, through London. Tin; seller thereby would get not only legitimate profit, but any benefit accruing from adverse exchange. He also says Australian buyers of American goods should insist on delivery at normal dollar exchange.
Most goods from America ale sold at rates which allow ample trade profits witlmet rd itional profit being made in the doilar exchange.
