WELLINGTON SESSIONS. WELLINGTON, February 10,
At the Supreme Court to-day, Howard Harold Armstrong, a saddler at Carterton, was charged with breaking and entering the shop and dwelling of Mrs May Elizabeth Baillie, and with having in his possession without lawful excuse, two pick lock keys. Accused gave evidence on his own behalf. He spoke about his friendship with Mrs Baillie. Ho had promised her late husband that he would help her in her business. For four years, with her knowledge and consent, he had carried the keys of her shop. He went to the shop regularly in the evenings to assist. He lent her money, paid insurance premiums for years, and regarded her as his fiancee. The allegation that ho went into her premises with intent to commit a crime was absolutely false. All the keys which the police obtained from him fitted his locks. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
