7 PASSENGERS INJURED

WELLINGTON, Feb. 11

The Chief Postmaster has been advised by the Postmaster at Nelson that the mail ear from Nelson to Blenheim capsized five miles on the north side of Wqimii, just after 10 a.m., to-day. The following passengers were injured:— Morrain, severe abdominal injuries.

• Penrain injured hip. Blanchette dislocated shoulder. Boyd and Fuller, injured and bruised. Miss Glyness, ribs broken and shoulder badly bruised. Miss MclLudgen, injured leg. The driver escaped with slight injuries. FURTHER PARTICULARS. NELSON, Feb. 11. A mail car, belonging to Newman Bros., went over a bank this morning when on its way from Nelson to Blenheim. The passengers suffered only minor injuries. The driver escaped uninjuied. The accident occurred m Wangamoa Kalley. Coining round a corner, the car met a laden timbeil wagon, and, in endeavouring to pass it, touched the hub of one of the wheels of the wagon and overturned. The car fell about ten feet. Some of the passengers were pinned beneath it. A telegraph party were working near •the’spot, and they together with several returned soldiers on a second car, tendered assistance in extricating the passengers and giving first aid. They also telephoned to Nelson for a doctor. Two medical men went cut Three of the passengers continued their journey to Blenheim. One of these uas .Miss McFadden, of Lee Street, Blenheim, who had her face and legs rather badly cut. Another was an elderly man who did not need medical attention.

Five persons were admitted to the Nelson Hospital. They were:--Mr Uriah Blauohett, Mr Moran, Miss Sat-c-hell, Miss Glynes, Mrs Perment. The patients are mostly suffering from bruises. They are all expected ’to be able to leave the hospital soon The ear received some damage, cue wheel being smashed.
