CHAUTAUQUA
Chautauqua opens to-morrow afternoon on Cass Square with a full concert by the Lyric Male Quartette, of Auckland, said by the Wellington “ Dominion ” to be “one of the finest quartettes ever heard in Wellington.” The quartette members include Arthur Ripley, first tenor; Herbert Richards, second tenor; Allan McEhvain, baritone and entertainer; and John Ryan, basso. The formal opening of Chautauqua will take place to-morrow night at eight o’clock, when the Mayor will officially welcome the Chautauqua to Hokitika. Following the welcome the Lyrics will give a. forty-five minute concert, followed by a educative lecture by Dr Arthur Carpenter, an American scientist and astronomer. The site chosen for Chautauqua is ideal, and judging hv advance sales and highly favourable reports from elsewhere, large crowds should mark the attendance.
