ATTEMPTED MURDER. WELLINGTON, This Day

Aubrey Ibell, aged seventeen, was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to murder Wm. Murphy and his son, John Murphy at Island Bay on January 22nd.

Two charges of theft were also preferred against Ibelb Murphy’s evidence showed that he gave Ibell a home while the latter was looking for employment. On returning home on January 22nd, witness found some of his belongings in Ibell’s portmanteau. Ibell admitted stealing these, and was taken to the police station Later, when Murphy and Ins son went to get tea, they found poison had been put in some meat. This poison, had been taken from a box where it was kept under lock and l'°> ■ The poison was used by Murphy, senr., in the course of his work as rat-catcher about the city.
