NELSON REPORT BETTER. NELSON. Feb. 10. Medical men report an abatement of the influenza outbreak in this district.

POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH ' CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 10.

From noon yesterday to noon to-day thirty notifications of mild type, were made to the Christchurch Hospital Authorites. There were six admissons to the hospital in the same period. At present there are twenty influenza cases in hospital ten being mild cases and ten pngiuuopic. The jnajpritv of these casps arp concerned yyitli relapses due to sufferers leaving their beds too soon, or from some form of neglect, necessitating their removal to hospital for treatment. The hospital officials regard the position as quite satisfactory, and''the impression is that, the epidemic is on the wains.

The Minister of Public Health has telegraphed to the Mayor that he cannot accede to the request that as children are allowed to attend picture theatres in Christchurch, they should be allowed also to attend the schools in fhe city, with certain precautions . j The following is the Minister’s tele- ; gram: The closing of schools for the present was considered -advisable by responsible heads of the Public Health Department, and I enjinpt alter the decision which I arrived at after much careful eonsideraton, or make tile exception suggested. There is ail influenza outbreak at Thursday Island, and it is serious. The Government has beon requested to send doctors, orderlies and drugs.
