OPEN RAILWAY CROSSINGS. PALMERSTON N. Feb, 9. At the Magistrate’s Court, Mr Stout .M., convicted without fine R. G. Hull, a lorry driver for crossing a railway line when an engine was approaching. It was said that the view was obstructed by a railway shed. The Magistrate said he thought it was about time that the Department installed warning bells at crossings.
PASSING A FORGED NOTE. PALMERSTON N., freb. 10
Jerasmus Gambinses, a fish merchant of Feilding was committed for trial, on a charge, at Palmerston North on Dec. 7tli 1919, knowing a bank note to bo forged, did cause Iris Stanley to act upon the same as if it were genuine. The forged note was one of a number of National Bank notes.
REPORTED BURGLARIES. OPOTIKI, Feb. 9
Three burglaries have been reported to the police. On Wednesday night J. Love’s tailor’s premises were entered by a back window, and two serge suits and a pair of trousers were stolen. When Mr Love arrived at work on Thursday morning he found the back window open and some jobs strewn over the floor.
Last night a thief entered the bedroom of W. Moss tobacconist, and stole £35 cash from Moss’ trousers, and also the keys of the shop, and then stole goods from the latter. Shalfoon Bros, drapery establishment was also entered last night, and two overcoats and some shirts stolen. The police, are investigating, but there is nothing to report so far.
