FERRY SERVICE
TROUBLE WITH MAORI’S FIRE-
WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. Owing to trouble with the firemen, the ferry steamer Maori has not yet left for Lyttelton, and there is considered to be very little chance of her sailing to-night. The hold-up of the Maori is due to tile firemen’s complaints about the boilers, and their refusal to take the ship to sea until repairs are effected. In spite of the certificate of two Government inspectors, that the boilers are quite right, the men refused to sail, consequently 500. passengers are helu up, many of them having to walk the Wellington streets. It is said that though the firemen refused to convey the passengers to Lyttelton, they were quite ready to take the ship to Port Chalmers for repairs. MARAROA DETAINED. The ferry steamer Mararoa did not leave Lyttelton for Wellington on Friday night. One "of the crew developed a mild attack of influenza, and the vessel remained in port overnight to undergo a thorough fumigation. The Mararoa left for Wellington on Saturday night, instead of the Maori.
