SYDNEY, February 7. e Burns, Philp and Coy. announce that one steamer will be despatched direct from the islands t-o England and others arc chartering for the island and eastern trade. It is now likely that the whole of the steamers of Burns Philp and Co’s island line will not again be put into commission. The Government Gazette declares tobacco a necessary commodity.

THE DAMAGE REPORTS
BRISBANE, Feb. 7. 1 . Latest, advices from Mydth state Cairns received the full force of the cyclone from Monday night to Tuesday morning. During the night most of the residences on the water front were unroofed, the gale reaching force speed of one hundred miles per hour.. Many gallant rescues were effected by the police ambulance. The damage in Cairns is now estimated at £39,000.
News from the back country siys the positaion is more serious than at first anticipated. ’.Hie top of Mount Mulloy is almost totally destroyed and the hardwood forest is levelled to the ground. Many lotbor towns' .suffered partial destruction. So far only one death is reported, a scrub feller being drtfwned in Russell river.
SILVER COINS EMBARGO. MELBOURNE, February 7. A proclamation prohibits tho export of silver coins. Oversea passengers in future are only permitted to take three pounds worth.
