Tho Board of Trade will Bit in all the centres, beginning in Christchurch on February 17th, hearing charges of profiteering. Pending the appointment of its own district officers, the Board has made arrangements with the Labour Department inspectors and representatives to receive complaints of profiteering, and forward the same to tlie Board, which will use its discretion as to forwarding cases to the Crown Solicitor for prosecution.

George Joseph Windsor, a prisoner serving a sentence of six yents’ reformative treatment, was charged today with assaulting a warder by attacking him with a knife and causing several jsevero outs. Accused denied the assault, and said the warder attacked him. The Magistrate said accused had a had recorl, "and sentenced him to 14 days’ bread and water.

At the Supreme Court, A. C. T. Lamb, who wa,s acquitted yesterday on a charge of stealing £l6O worth of drapery from- his employers, was brought up for sentence on a charge of breaking gaol whilst awaiting trial, to which ho had pleaded guilty. Mr Justice ITerdman pointed out that tho charge was wrongly ]aid. It was alleged in the indictment that tlie offence was committed “while serving a term of imprisonment,” whereas prisoner had not been committed for a term. The Crown Prosecutor agreed and on his suggestion the case was adjourned till next session for a fresh charge to bo Ijaid. Tlie’ accused- was allowed bail in his own recognisance of £IOO. Mari- I. Francis was granted a decree nisi against Rollo Francis, on the ground of desertion, wit-li custody of the two children.

Tn re Strang, v. Strang, a decree nisi was made absolute. Co-respondent paid in £SOO damages, of which £IOO in to go to the husband, and £4OO to the Public Trustee for the benefit of tlie child, which wa.s left- with the mother in the meantime.
