Several important scientific publications are either now ready for the press or have appeared, stated Dr Cockayne (president of the New Zealand institue) last week. There is the Hon. G. M. Thomson’s work—the labour of many years—dealing with acclimatisation in New Zealand, which is completed and has been sent to Dugland. Mr T. F. Chcescman has contributed an important paper on the vascular flora of Macquarrie Island as one of the reports of the Mawson Antarctic | Expedition, which contains a philosophical essay on the origin of the isolated band of plants of that island—a worthy supplement to his essay in “ The Sub-Antarctic Islands of Now Zealand.” Tile first volume of the Manuals of the Board of Science and Art has just appeared, and other volumes are in contemplation by the lion. 0 M Thomson, Dr 0.
