There is an extraordinary boom in professional Association football, recalling the palmy pre-war days. English cup ties are in full swing, after fiyo years interval. Employers in the North of England complain of the loss, es due to the mid-week re-plays of drawn games. Their appeals do not prevent a general exodus from the works to tiie playing grounds. It is estimated that £IOO.OOO. sterling was lost in wages and the output at Sunderland owing to one mid-week re-play in January, and probably more will be lost in a similar re-play next Wednesday. 514,000 attended-sixteen cup ties in the second round on Saturday. The takings were £37,937, including £5.073 at Chelsea ground alone.
