HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE

The quarterly meeting of members was held in the Brigade Rooms at 8 p.m. Present—Sup. Braddon (chair). Dep.-Sup. Davidson and 22 members.The minutes of previous quarterly meeting were read and confirmed, and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Secretary Fire Brigades Association, notifying that the annual conference would be held at Hastings, commencing on February-29th, when invitations for the following year’s conference would be received. —Received. From same, referring to business for conference, enclosing appeal on behalf of a fellow fireman, and asking for information. —Received. It was resolved to vote .the usual donation to the appeal made.
From Greymouth Brigade, notifying intention to' hold a demonstration at Greymouth on Easter Saturday, April 3rd, for West Coast Brigades, and asking for support of the Brigade; the programme to be on similar lines to the demonstration held at Westport.—Deceived ; referred to Foreman Williams to endeavour to get a team together. The roll of honour of the Brigade, requested by the Association, was drawn up for submission, and comprised 17 men, firemen and ex-firemen. Two members went to the ballot for appointment ns delegate to the "conference, Fireman R. Fane (senr.), and C. Gibbons. A ballot resulted in a tic —l2 votes each. A draw in the hat resulted in the appointment of Fireman R,. Fane (senr) as delegate. The usual allowance to the delegate’s expenses, was made. It was resolved on the occasion of the special meeting to be held shortly to instruct the delegate on conference business, that an invitation be extended to the chairman and members of the Fire Board to attend when the presentation of service bars will be made to members.
A committee was set up consisting of the Superintendent, Deputy, Foreman R. Ross, J. J. Mclntosh, J. AVilson. H. Thompson, delegate and secretary to consider matters in connection with the Association’s balance sheet and annua 1 reports.
The Secretary’s report showed a satisfactory financial position. Foremen’s reports on gear and sheds were of a satisfactory nature.
Foreman McGregor urged that consideration l>e given to the securing of a motor chemical engine for the town. After consideration it was resolved, on the motion of Eng."Mclntosh, seconded by Dep.-Sup. Davidson, to forward a request to the Fire Board to provide a motor fire engine for the Brigade. A discussion took took place in connection with the shortage of the Borough water supply, and it was resolved to write to the Borough Council urging that steps be at once taken to provide for an increased water supply, the fear being expressed that in the event of a serious outbreak, the present supply of water available might not prove sufficient- to enable a serious fire outbreak to he properly coped with.
The roll was then called and the meeting terminated.
