(per press association.—copyeioht., MURDER CHARGE. AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. Percy Dare, aged 24, was arrested at Peria ,near Mangonui on a charge of murdering Arthur Horton at Penrose on Monday of last week, when Horton was run down and killed by a motorcar ,fo which it was alleged, Dare was the driver.

The Council of New Zealand -Rugby l>eague lias decided to cable to the Secretary of the Australian Amateur Athletic Association, pointing out that the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association recognise League players as amateurs and asking him if they were eligible to compete in the Australasian efasanipouiship. The. Coimoil also decided to communicate with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on the 'subject.

It had a strong hold when the Brigade arrived and was only extinguished after two hours’ work. The damage to the buildings and contents are very extensive, but the library, . billiard and dining rooms were saved from serious damage. Tlie origin of the fife is not known. Search parties have returned from Milford track. They found no trace of Miss Reid, the High School teacher, who was lost there recently. CHARGE OF BIGAMY. DUNEDIN, This IDay. Rose May Dolphin, has been arrested on a charge of bigamy, that she was married nearly five years ago to David Dolphin, a school teacher at Whangarei and in December 1917, while her husband was alive, went through the form of marriage at ~ud with Donald Stewart, Kattanga, a commercial traveller.
