SITTINGS IN SENATE.

DUNEDIN, Jan. 22

At the University Senate Professor Wall moved that in M.A. and M. Sc. ■degrees honours be not awarded if the degree is obtained more than six years {after .matriculation. Professor Macmillan /Brown moved in addition, by way of an amendment, viz., that tbe Chancellor have discretion, in case of illness ,t oextend the period for one year. The amendment was lost, and the motion was carried by 11 votes to 8 and referred to the Statutes Committee. It was resolved that the -matter of concessions to entrance scholars, and the question of awarding distinction or some form of honours at the B.A. stag*-, be referred to the principals of tbe secondary schools and to the professorial boards for a report to the Board of Studies and the Senate, and that Mr J. H. Tibbs he invited to draw up a memorandum on the subject to be circulated to those bodies. The Senate unanimously resolved that a now subject, political science, should be substituted for jurisprudence and constitutional history in the arts course. The matter was referred to the teachers of history, law, and philosophy to draw up a prescription for the new’ subject, and to report to the Board of Studies.
