The final instalment of the Kaiser’s letters to “Nicky” cover the period, -February 1913 to February 1914. The letters are of a gossipy nature. Writing in February 1913 ,tlie Kaiser fervently hoped that the Balkan troubles would «oon be finally arranged without complications. He expressed the opinion that Austria, as a near neighbour, had interests to look after, but he was under the impression that she did not desire to claim anything for herself, but “wishes to make sure that no readjustment of the map should occur which should he dangerous to her in the future.” In a March letter, the Kaiser complains.—“ That damned Balkan muddle deprived me of being at my heavenly paradise, Corfu.’
