WELLINGTON; Jan. 27 The Committee of Management of the Merchant Service Guild - passed a motion to-day protesting, against the Mokoia being sent to Samoa. The Committee decided to call a special meeting to go into the question fully. The Secretary in the meantime is to approach other marine bodies so as to obtain their views.
DR CHESSON GOING TO SAMOA. CHRISTCHURCH, -Tan. 27. It is understood that Dr <Herbori Ch'esson, District Health 'Officer for Canterbury has been “loaned” to the Department. of Internal Affairs, and. has been appointed to the charge of all matters pertaining to public health and hospitals in, British Samoa. Dr Chesson will probably take up his new duties about the beginning of May. It is possible that Dr Chesson will accompany the Parliamentary Party on their visit to the Islands.
Pending a permanent appointment of a District'Health Officer for Canterbury, it is probable that Dr Hughes, District Health Officer for Otago, will come to Christchurch.
SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WHANGAREI, Jan. 23. A serious accident befell Mr J. J, Wilson ,assistant Public W orks engineer, at Kaikohe. He was riding on horseback yesterday when the animal fell upon him, crushing the pelvis bones. Constable Lambert, in a inotor-car, conveyed the injured man to -Hawaii aw a Hospital in the early hours of this morning. His condition is critical.
LOST FOR A NIGHT., FOXTON, Jan. 23. Two little girls, aged five and seven years, a daughter and niece of Mr Frederick Munn, strayed from the beach on Thursday afternoon. A search party scoured the countryside, but darkness intervened and the search was continued at an early hour this morning, and the little ones were found about four miles in the interior, among the sandhills. They were none the worse for the night’s exposure.
