SENSATIONAL TRIAL

QUIEN NOT NURSE CAVELL’S BETRAYER. f ßy Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) PARIS, Jan. 24. There was a sensation during the retrial of Quien, which was held owing to an informality of the earlier court-mar-tial. Quien earnestly protested that he was innocent of betraying Nurse Cavell. The Public Prosecutor unexpectedly cut short his protestation by saying—“Quien, for once at any rate, is telling the truth. We have documents showing that he is not the man who denounced the gallant British nurse.” Quien in a voice broken with emotion, thanked the Prosecutor. The trial continues in connection with charges against Quien of communicating with the enemy and betraying other persons.
