The tennis championships were continued in fine weather. In the singles Cross (N.S.W.) beat Best, (New Zealand), 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. Beamish, beat Kidson 7-5, 6-0, 6-2. Kingscote was unable to compete in the singles owing to an injury to his back in yesterday’s play.
It is notified that entries for the 1920 challenge round of the Davis Cup, to be played in New Zealand in December next, must lie in the hands of the secretary of the Australian Tennis Association by the first Monday in March. The English players urge New Zealand to agree to play the cup match in Australia, owing to weather considers, tions. 1
In the tennis singles, Lowe beat Jordan; Beamish beat Peach; Anderson Feat Climenger; O’Hara-Wood beat Neil; and Marsh beat Thomas.
In the doubles Anderson and Lowe, beat Jordan and O’Ryan. In the singles, Patterson, who is suffering from injured arm, lost two sets to Taylor /Adelaide). The latter then retired,, as lie was compelled to return home. Subsequently it was announced that Patterson had withdrawn from the tournament. Brooks was also unable to play further in the doubles.
