Four English mails are reported to be en route to New Zealand. The Alalna, which left England on December 12th for Auckland via the Cape and Hobart, is bringing an English mail, and is due at Lyttelton at the beginning of next month. The transport Bremen, due at AVellington on February let, is also bringing a mail. The AVailtawa, which left San Francisco for AVellington on January 14tli, has 3179 sacks of mails; 1652 bags contain parcels from America while 1527 are English, Canadian, and American corresponctf'ijee and newspaper mails. The fourth English mail for New Zealand left London by the Athenic on January 16tli, and is due at AVellington about 1 the end of next month.

A severe accident befel a young man named Roddy Liddington, at Elsthorpe, Hawke’s Bay, last Sunday week. He, with two mates, wiis amusing himself, rolling boulders over a cliff 200 feet high, when the edge broke away, and Liddington fell the entire distance into the river at the bottom. His mates procured a boat, and he was got out after being ten minutes in the water. It was seen at once that he had suffered severe injuries, and he was conveyed to AVaipukurau. Hospital, where it was found that several ribs were broken, also his knee cap and nose, and that he was suffering from concussion of tbo brain.

Air J. C- Dale, Chief Postmaster at Westport, reaches the compulsory retiriiicr 'age in August next, and has been granted the usual term of leave prior to retirement.
