It is understood the Westport Jockey Club has now been notified that the totalisator permit for the proposed second day meeting in March went to the Jellicoe trotting meeting at Christchurch. The authorities are now endeavouring to trace the letter of notification to the Westport Club of November last which does not appear to have reached its destination. The Westport Club is still claiming the second day which was allotted tp it in good, faith, and is appealing to the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs to grant what is considered a legitimate claim. If the Minister vetoes the second day, under the circumstances the AVestport Club will have a claim for fair compensation seeing that it .has gone on with its part ql the bargain as regards improvements in good faith.
