At Wellington on Wednesday after the decision of the New Zealand Trotting Cup race; assisted by the plToemaker Rakaia, Author Dillon (B. ,Tarden), moved off from the mile post at a solid pace. The first four furlongs took lmin. 3 4-sth secs, and the mile 2min. Bsee. Both driver and horse were greet ed with loud applause on returning to the enclosure.
Immediately afterwards Cathedral Chimes (J. Bryce, jun.) amd_ Evening Chimes, (J. Bryce sen), got away at the first attempt. The half mile was passed in lmin. 3 4-sscc. Two furlongs from homo the son of Four Chimes put in a skip, and although ho lost little ground by the mistake the mile took 2min. lOsec. While doing his preliminary Cathedral Chimes struck himself, and this undoubtedly prevented him from doing his best. Like Author Dillon, Cathedral Chimes and J. Bryce jun. -were warmly received on returning to the birdcage.
