GOING TO JAPAN
Cable advice has been received by business men from Japan, of a further rise in the price of ypepe de Chine. This class of sTlk goods, which was imported to Sydney, as recently as August last, was landed in this State ? xt a price which makes the retail price 8/11 a yard. The rise in the foreign price has 'been fairly rapid ever since, and the stocks whch have, been ordered for delivery in March next will bo sold at the increased price of Ll/U a yard. The Japanese merchants have now notified the'trade in Sydney that the same quality material required for the months after March will ho at thefurther enhanced price, which will force the Svdnoy price up to 17/3 a yard. Australia does nob produce any silk goods, and therefore, has to pay tlio price ’ demanded % hho foreign merchant.
