ENTERTAINS SIR J. G. WARD [PEE PBEBB ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.; WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. ■A luncheon was tendered here to-day to Sir Joseph Ward. Replying to the toast of his health, Sir J. Ward said that he was,not one of those who favoured the abolition of the party system. The years of the National Government had satisfied him that this would not bo possible.

Sir Joseph added that he had been offered a seat in different portions of the country. Yet he thought he wa9 right in his judgment. He had made up his mind not to stand for any of the seats offered. He was not doing this out of .pique, but as the result of full consideration. Sir Joseph remarked that he intended to take a good rest.

4t- a meeting of the Liberal Party, on the motion of Mr T. M. Wilford, seconded by Mr A, M. Myers, the Hon. W. D .S. MacDonald was elected Leader of the Liberal Party. No other member was proposed. The following resolution was passed : “That the Liberal Members of the House of Representatives wish to express their deep regret at the absence of Sir Joseph Ward from the new Parliament, and wish to assure him of their warm appreciation Of his personal worth and political achievements, and to thank him for his eminent services to the Dominion and to the Empire.
