{PKU I'RliBS ASSOCIATION.— oorThiunr.J FIRE AT SEA. WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. The Secretary of the Post Office has received the following wireless this evening from the Chatham Islands:— “A report has been received from Kaiangaroa stating that what appeared to be a fire, some distance out to sea was observed about 9 p.m., on Sunday. After about an hour the reflection died out. No further indications were observed.

WESTPORT MEETING. WESTPORT, Jan. 19. A large and representative public meeting was held to-night, being convened by the Mayor to receive the reply of the Prime Minister to the invitation to him to visit Westport on the coal and harbour questions, to decide what further action should be taken. It was resolved to invite the Parliamentary Samoan Party to visit Westport for the bunkering of the vessel and for them to become personally acquainted with the conditions obtaining here as the result of mining trouble and the reduced Harbour Board revenues, and also to learn the need for the early completion of the Buller Gorge railway. It was resolved that, failing this, the Member for the district (Mr Holland,) and the Mayor of Westport, (Mr Leaver) bo invited to take the platform in the main centres of the Dominion to place the whole position of the coal ( shortage before the public. It was further decided to again asU Mr Massey to visit Westport, and o a k ttm Member for the district to personally interview the Prime Minister in support of this request.

THE MISSING TEACHERINVERCARGILL, January 19 No trace has yet been found of Miss Reid the Dunedin school teacher, who was lost on Milford track on Tuesday last. Hope of her being found alive has been practically abandoned.
