A meeting is convened to he held at the Town Hall this evening, when the district organiser lately appointed in respect to the returned soldiers, will address returned men, and the public generally on the objects of the returned soldiers asoseiatio'n. The soldiers’ organisation is a very large one and it is in the interests of the returned men to maintain it at the highest strength. It is to be hoped that the public will continue to show an interest in the soldiers’ affairs now that the pomp and circumstance of war have passed away. There is still the debt of gratitude to repay for the services so cheerfully rendered by the men who served' and anything that can be done to appreciate. what has been performed and put the ox-soldiers in the way of a better living, should be done. The country lias placed on the statute book a good deal to help the soldiers. The departments created to help the repatriation of the soldiers have been enthusiastic in their work, and the record of the
work done «is to the cr.edit of the country. But everything cannot be achieved by act of parliament alone, however benign it might he. Behind it all should be the* ever practical symof the people helping wlierever possible to assist the soldier to a better position. Employers of labour can help greatly in assisting to find work for the men. The men, too, can help themselves bv taking up the courses of vocational training and seeking to fit themselves for fresh tasks carrying bet~ ••v>y than the laborers’ reward, ‘flic speaker ,to-night could supply much useful information to soldier and public alike ns to means for mutual co-operation with one another, and making the way easier to that better understanding of the obligations we owe one to each other. '
