BANK GIRLS' SECRET. LONDON, Nov. 19. The secret of the women bank clerks’ “hidden weapon” for use “in the event of combined action on the part of the directors securing their mass dismiss sal,” almost slipped out last evening at a woman’s meeting in Winchester Hall, j E.C. Miss C. Maguire, general secretary of the Association of Women Clerks, had not met with a ready response from the 400 delegates who were present to form a Bank Clerks’ Council. “Oh! don’t bo so sliy,” she appealed. “Well, said a delegate hesitating, “may I, please, nominate a director’s wife?” “Is she a member of the association?” “Oh, no,” came the response, “but sho-could use an awful lot of influence on our behalf.” Amid the laughter that followed Miss Maguire was heard to remark: “In future it may bo necessary to avail ourselves of the largo financial influence wielded by women.” There was an expectant hush, but Miss Maguiro checked herself by saying, “We are not going to givo away our secrets.”Miss Dorothy Evans, organising secretary, said: “Wo have a ‘weapon’ we can use, but wo tiro not ready to uso it. Wo must ho organised first. The bank directors aro not as obdurato to our proposals as one would suppose; by far tho greatest opposition comes from individual malo employees. W 7 e aro going to start a parliamentary and public campaign against tho Government policy of favouring 'Cuthbcrts.’ ”
