An important inter-Stato conference of Australian producers is sitting here and considering a proposal for the establishment of a Wholesale Co-opera-tive Federation, representing the whole of Australia. it is intended that the Federation shall act on behalf of the affiliated societies in a wholesale distribution of Australian products in foreign markets. v Mr Hootou, Manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Wholesale Federation, lias attended the conference with the object of describing the movement as run in Now Zealand.

Speaking at a welcome to the Alliance delegates who had returned from New Zealand after participating in the prohibition campaign, Reverend Hammond said numbers of alleged informal votes had been wrongfully put aside. The liquor, trade was so strong in New Zealand that they were able absolutely to cloud the issues in April and December. He concluded that the energy of the prohibitionists somewhat lagged in December, as they were suffering from a sort of war weariness, but in spite of
these setbacks, prohibition was coming in New Zealand, and the next fight there on this issue would probably be the last one. DIVORCES. SYDNEY, Jan. 9. Official statistics show during 1919 there were 1312 petitions for divorce, compared with 934 during the previous year.
CHURCH UNION. (Received This Day at 11.20. a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 9. Voting on the question of the Union of Congregational Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, shows a majority m favour of the union.
