AUGKLAND WATERSIDERS.
FURTHER INCREASES WANTED AUCKLAND, Jan. 6. The Auckland watersiders to-day at a stop work meeting had read the resolutions adopted by the Dominion Conference held in Napier. The resolutions included the lollowin gdemands:— Representation of watersiders on Harbour Boards, with a view to their eventual control of the stevedoring. The inclusion of the Railway Department in future agreements. Preference to members of the Federation.
The Conference also also decided to ask for:—
A flat rate increase on the existing rates at all ports of sixpence an hour on all classes of work. Treble overtime for Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday. - Double rate for all overtime between 8 a.m., and 5 p.m. Treble rate for all overtime between 5 p.m., and 8 a.m. When the men work part of the time, full time shall be paid. For ordinary overtime, the Conference decided to ask for an increase of sixpence per hour on present rates. The Conference unanimously agreed I hat. all men working on imported coal should be paid threepence per hour over the prevailing rates for New Zealand coal.
That the rate for carrying of coal and trimmings in bunkers be uniform at all parts, namely 2s 6d for carrying and 2/9 (for trimming for ordinary time; and for overtime 3/5 and 3/8. Also whatever additional rates may be gained in the next agreement. The Conference also asks for sixpence an hour above the ordinary cargo rates for landing cheese. The Auckland Watersiders Union endorsed the above amendments.
